There are situations, divination for which you need to get an accurate and clear answer. Spreads that give such predictions are called divination on "yes and no". It is a fairly common belief that Tarot cards are not well suited for getting answers to one-syllable questions. In theory this is true, but life in the form of clients makes its own adjustments. So all the same, where is Yes, and where is No, and where is neither this nor that?

In this short article, I will try to talk about possible practical approaches to solving this problem and about my personal experience. I will use Tarot Thoth, because there is a certain logic that you can rely on.

Practice has shown that you can get a monosyllabic answer to the Tarot in three simple but working ways: with one card, two cards, or a layout for an arbitrary number of cards.

Layout on one card and interpretation of the answer

It is important to immediately understand that none of the Major Arcana here can be an unequivocal answer to such a question. In the Tarot of Thoth, the Major Arcana are the paths on the Tree of Life. And the way, it is like a mode of transport, in itself is neither good nor bad. It is rather convenient or inconvenient for solving the task: it is obvious that it is best to fly from Moscow to St. Petersburg by plane or go by Sapsan. But not if you are put on the federal wanted list.

As for the Cards of the Court, the well-known subjectivism that each such card carries in itself can result in a response with reservations. And this is unlikely to suit us. However, as a rule, the guys from the team of Swords do not at all seek to reassure the querent. Comrades from the detachment of Cups strive to evade answers. And only the brigades of Wands and Disks are distinguished by noticeable optimism. But personally, I prefer not to get involved with them in such matters, but I count only the Minor Arcana as an answer, based on its radicalness and standard interpretation.

"Good" Minor Arcana - "Yes", "bad" - "No". And a number of cards respond in the spirit of "Theoretically, there is a possibility, but who knows." From personal observations, such cards in the Tarot of Thoth often turn out to be all Twos, all Fours, Five of Wands, and Six of Swords, Nine of Wands and Ten of Disks and Ten of Cups. If you still leave the Major Arcana, then it would be best to clarify them with another card. But the answer in this case will be more complicated. For example, once, when asked about the possibility of marriage with a chosen one, a girl got Death + Three of Wands cards. I interpreted this as the answer Yes, provided that the transformation of the relationship itself takes place. The couple broke up for two years and got back together after a series of personal changes for each. The Arcana Death alone would not have given me the opportunity to give such an answer.

Two-card spread for one-word answers

In a two-card spread, I also use only the Minor Arcana and put the question like this: “Yes, there will be an event” and “No, there will be no event.” I consider the answer to the question not the value of the card, but its position on the Tree of Life, or the position of the suits relative to each other. The higher one card is to Kether, the higher its weight relative to the second.

Let's look at a few examples:

I will consider the answer "Yes" more weighty. Because the Two of Wands is on the Tree of Life above the Six of Wands.

Answer "Yes" - Three of Cups, answer "No" - Three of Wands

In this pair, the advantage is for the answer "No". Because the suit of wands is more important than the suit of bowls.

Answer "Yes" - Three of Swords, answer "No" - Ten of Cups

Our answer is "Yes" because it is higher to Keter than the Ten of Cups.

Layout for an arbitrary number of cards
